Ontario's Pay Transparency Act Comes into Effect on January 1, 2019

The Ontario government has issued Bill 3, Chapter 5 of the Statutes of Ontario 2018. While not all reporting details have been determined, Numerical Insights has summarized what we know about the requirements so far and what we anticipate seeing in the reporting mandate.

A few highlights are given below and more detailed information of what you need to do after January 1 are provided in the summary report. A link is shown at the end of this blog post.

  • The Act impacts what employers must post on job descriptions for public postings.
  • The Act requires companies to submit data about their workforce composition, pay and pay ranges.
  • The starting date for required reporting differs depending on the number of employees within a company.
  • The Act assigns a set of rights to employees in terms of transparency of compensation information, compensation ranges and rights to inquiry and complaint filing.
